Uniontown Downtown Business District Authority / MS Overview:

The Uniontown Downtown Business District Authority (UDBDA) is the administrative body that facilitates Main Street Program activities and provides a physical location for the Main Street office in the City of Uniontown.  The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Uniontown acts as the pass through agency providing financial oversight and fiscal direction for the program.

Uniontown’s Main Street program has excellent representation from the business community with volunteer board  and committee positions being filled by business and professional men and women. Many of the retailers have decades of practical experience as their store fronts have been handed down through the generations.

Large areas of the downtown has already had streetscape improvements. The East end of Main Street is beautifully landscaped with safely navigable sidewalks. Morgantown Street, another major artery that runs North and South through the city and should be under construction by years end. The final piece of the streetscape puzzle will be the rehabilitation of West Main Street that presently houses the Main Street office and leads to and from the mall and big box retailers just outside of the central business district. This area will be critical to the development of the downtown as it supplies egress via the national scenic byway through the historic district.

Strategic / Long Term Plans:

One of the chief concerns among the board of the UDBDA and the Main Street Economic Restructuring committee is the development of upper floors in the downtown that are currently underutilized or completely vacant.  Other long-term plans include the development of an entrepreneurial development center having square footage and a layout that is suitable to house the Uniontown Farmers’ Market, an arts component, provide administrative office space, and incubate small business demonstrating Main Street’s commitment to the growth and expansion of the city.
