Back to Basics: Buy Local / Live Local
We’re talking locally produced, locally grown, locally crafted. Sustainability is the BUZZ WORD, and we’re buzzing with enthusiasm about the possibilities. Whether your forte is canning, composting, or clothing, we’re interested in learning more with you about your craft. Artists and craftsmen are prepared to demonstrate wool felting, weaving with cattails, and wearing natural fibers.
If you are interested in any of these cottage industries you will be delighted to know that the Buy Local Program in partnership with Main and Elm Street Programs is developing a comprehensive training program. Among the classes / demonstrations being considered are baking artisan breads, making soft cheeses, starting vegetable seeds, and making handmade soap.
Additional ideas are welcome. If you would like to share a suggestion or ask a question about the program, please direct questions to Rebecca Hilton at the Elm Street Program. 724-438-4287.
Storey Square Entertainment
Main Street Uniontown is pleased to report that plans for the 2011 Storey Square Summer Concert Series continue to unfold. The first event is set to begin on June 30th. Once again, we will be featuring a musical genre performed by celebrated local talent at Uniontown’s East Main Street venue.
Every week, outstanding food will be served by area restaurants. A community nonprofit will partner with a benevolent downtown retailer who will contribute a gift or gift basket to be raffled off. The drawing will be held near the end of each concert. This year we will be welcoming the Uniontown Farmers Market / Buy Local Program to Peter Street located at the rear of Storey Square.
Sue Quinn, Promotions Committee chair is actively seeking local bands who wish to contract for service. If you are a home grown musician and want to share your talent at Storey Square, contact Sue at 724-438-4297. Plan to join us every Thursday between June 30th and September 1st.
